It's the “little things.”
My wording may be clunky. I'm not sure how to ask this. When it comes to The Golden Girls. What are the little things that make a moment for you? It can be a look. Music. Lighting. Hopefully, my examples will make it make sense.
The girls have ragged on Dorthy, many times. When Blanche tells Dorthy why she “Always felt safe having you in the house” Dorrhy’s look is funny. But it's how she's holding the coffee mug that makes it funnier.
The Mother’s Day episode. The music that plays while Blanche is talking to her daughter on the phone. It's enhanced Rue’s performance. It always makes me emotional.
The moody sounding music they use to transition between scenes. It's kind of dark sounding.
When Spohia befriends the man at the beach. THE END! The was the camera moves. Showing Sophia and Dorothy, walking away, while showing the bench. And the music! 😭
We've seen Dororhy give piercing looks, countless times. The way she looked at Rose, while she told the story about Stepin Fetchit. It was the fact that they showed Dorothy looking at her, twice. And it seemed like Dorthy never moved or blinked! 😆
The way Rose looks during the finale scene of the final episode. When she's looking at the door and realizes, Dorothy isn't coming back. Betty always had the perfect look on her face while playing Rose. Kind of….off. For lack of a better word. But I see Betty White during this scene. She's sad that it's over. It's an interesting transformation.
Off topic. During the pandemic, I rewatched The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Haven't watched it since it was on Nick at Nite. I loved watching Betty White in that role. She had some acting chops! The scene when Phyllis confronted Sue about sleeping with her husband. I rewatched that scene, MANY times. There were so many other standout moments. Seeing her play the opposite of what I'm used to was a lot of fun.
