Full of Stars is the best DCFC song in ten years
I'm still processing and sitting with the record. There are a few that jumped out as favorites, but none came close to Full of Stars. It's a little hard to explain, but there's something so mature about it. It really is a beautiful song. I think that this record is clearly very personal and the catharsis was clear from top to bottom and as one piece of work all together. But man, Full of Stars knocks everything out of the park. It's everything I love about Ben Gibbard's songwriting.
We don't get Transatlantacism or Plans or [insert album here] anymore, but that's okay and it's a good thing, actually. It would be disingenuous. Full of Stars feels like the most distilled example of this -- we grow, we change, our perspective gets wider. Our favorite bands and songwriters do this too. I am glad that DCFC honored this truth with this album, even if it isn't my favorite album of all time.
Full of Stars is welcomed warmly into a long history of incredible opening tracks in DCFC's discography. It brought a tear to my eye.
