Did Dems try to get the Platner story out?

Right before the Platner story leaked, Chuck Schumer appeared on TV with Platner and Schumer endorsed Platner. For a story like this to leak right after that endorsement, it would have to be REALLY bad timing, maybe an attempt for the New York Times to capitalize off of the spotlight and get the story out before other competitors.

Unless, however, that Schumer and Dems approved the leak of the story to potentially diffuse any chances of an October surprise and (potentially) that's it. If this is somehow a 5D chess move by Schumer to get the story out in the open as soon as possible so the general public has five months to forget about it, and this is REALLY the last of the scandals, I still think Platner has a decent chance of survival. However, if this is really just the New York Times just happening to release the story after this endorsement and there are truly more skeletons in his closet, then he's prolly fucked. As much as I'd like to believe this is part of a grand master plan, it wouldn't surprise me if Dems just drew the short stick with one of the worst possible candidates this year.
