True feeling after coming back
Having lived in different states because of my Baba's job, I was exposed to different ways of life different mindsets and a greater sense of freedom. But after returning here, I still feel a heaviness in my heart. I often find myself wondering why some people remain so bound by orthodox thinking and restrictive traditions. Why does the burden of honor, responsibility and sacrifice so often fall on women? Why is a woman's freedom questioned and why is she expected to depend on a man for every decision? I struggle to understand why a woman cannot simply step outside and live her life on her own terms without upsetting outsiders in a halal wayPerhaps I feel this way because I have seen a different world. I feel fortunate to have been welcomed into a family that values trust independence and personal choice. My In laws never imposed unnecessary restrictions on me instead they respected my individuality and allowed me the freedom to make my own decisions.Sometimes I wonder whether these differences in mindset stem from a lack of education, limited exposure or simply generations of deeply rooted beliefs.Whatever the reason it makes me appreciate even more the people who believe that women deserve the same freedom, respect and opportunities as anyone else.
