When should I use the Direwasp rifle

I know this probably doesn't make sense at first. So this is my first time coming back to the game in a long time and I was doing the expedition and I really love the direwasp rifle, so I brought it to my regular save but I don't want to use it right away because I feel it's too broken for how early on in the game I am. So does anyone have any suggestion of like a checkpoint in which it should be fine to start using it without feeling like it's easy mode
