Feeling stupid about a complete nothing of a ghosting…
We started talking around the beginning of April…I hadn’t even been going on dating apps but out of boredom I’d checked one at random and saw he’d recently commented on a prompt. And it was like an instant connection. We just…clicked. I was traveling for work and wouldn’t be back in the area for another month and a half but that didn’t seem to matter. We both loved having deep in depth conversations and would text at length going on and on about our days and having deep talks about everything under the sun. He’d send me podcast length voice notes about his days and thoughts about things. It had been so long since I’d connected with someone on that level intellectually and I really felt like we understood one another and honestly right away I was scared at how much I felt I was starting to like him. And of course, that’s when the delayed responses started happening. We’d be sending giant wall of texts paragraphs to one another and suddenly he was taking days to reply and it became a pattern. I brushed it off thinking, “I’m busy, he’s busy, I’ll be home soon and we can meet in person.” But suddenly he started becoming very noncommittal to everything. I wasn’t stupid. At this point I already realized things were becoming one sided. But I naively thought that meeting up in person would change things. We probably spent three hours together at a bookstore and continued to have the same good type of conversations we’d had over FaceTime and text. So, naturally I thought everything was going well and I suggested we grab food but he mentioned he was supposed to have dinner with his grandparents and didn’t figure we’d end up at the bookstore that long or he would’ve loved to grab food with me. I so badly wanted to be wrong but I felt like I knew where this was going despite how well I thought things had been up until then in person. I asked him straight up if he’d want to meet up again and that it’s alright if he didn’t. He said he totally would and that he just wasn’t good at planning things ahead of time but that his schedule was pretty open. We even hugged goodbye. But our texts became shorter and shorter and less and less frequent after that and now it’s almost been a week…it’s taken everything in me not to double text him…I don’t know why but I decided to look back at our messages of when we first started talking on the app and-lo and behold-his profile’s gone. He’s a good looking guy and when we first started talking he mentioned having recently gotten out of a relationship so I wouldn’t be surprised if in the time that it took me to finally get back home he started talking to someone else while still entertaining me lightly in the background. I just wish he could’ve given me the honest truth when I gave him the perfect opportunity to…it’s stuff like this that makes me not ever want to feel anything again when I hadn’t felt as connected to anyone dating wise in so long…
