My experience with the surgical abortion today
I found out I was pregnant on saturday with my boyfriend of 1 month. I had never been pregnant before in previous relationships, hookups, anything. Me and him would have sex but he couldn’t finish from february till may, until one day he did. He pulled out, and that was that. The next time we did, he finished in me and I took a plan b about 9 hours after. Turns out that was right when I was ovulating, so the plan b failed. Jumping to now, I was about 2-3 weeks pregnant, back home from college.
I freaked out, I found out in my gym bathroom, just taking a test to be sure my period was going to come at the end of the month as usual. Immediately, I saw a significant second line (dollar tree test really do work) and told myself it wasn’t true, knowing deep down tests don’t lie. I freaked tf out, screaming, crying, by myself, on the phone with my doctor and planned parenthood trying to confirm the pregnancy, but it was saturday and everything was closed. I bought 3 clear blue test, all came back positive immediately.
I don’t want to go through too much detail to justify my reasons for choosing not to go through with the pregnancy, but for background I am 21, entering senior of college, and studying abroad in brazil in a month (for a whole semester).
Planned Parenthood will hold the specialist place in my heart, for immediately greeting me with the upmost kindness and support, and getting me in that same week for a surgical abortion. I had my procedure today, and it went great! They asked me a multitude of questions to make sure I was safe in all aspects and regarding consent, and they provided me with financial assistance of $450. So instead of $750 (which is the same cost for the pill and surgery) I paid $300 flat and got an iud (I was offered any birth control I wanted for free up to two years) while sedated. This is in Oregon btw. I was extremely anxious, it takes a while to actually get to the operation room, but once I was fed the first medication that makes you high, I was relaxed and happy. I had a lady and a man who was shadowing while in the room with me who I talked their ears off. Literally bless their hearts. The doctor was amazing, I went to sleep and woke up in the recovery room. I’m just bleeding, not a lot at all, and I have no cramps or pain. I know I was also very early in my pregnancy.
I just want to say, everything will be okay, I never thought this would happen to me but I am so blessed for planned parenthood and the state of oregon. I have absolutely no idea what I would do if it wasn’t for those factors. I’m relieved it’s over, but I am a little sad now. But, it’s the smartest decision and I know that. I have some tenderness in my lower back but overall I am perfectly fine. You can do this. So many people are here for you. And literally God bless PP. I couldn’t have asked for a smoother and blessed experience.
