I think I might have it
29F. In mid-February, I woke up with small patches of dry skin on both of my eyelids. Sometimes in the wintertime I will get dry skin there from the dry indoor air, so I just assumed it was that. Well, in the past 3 months it has progressed into a full-blown rash that covers my entire eyelid. Not only that, I also have new rashes on the sides of my neck and the inner folds of my elbows. It does not look like the Google images of DH, so I’m not sure that it’s that. Whatever is going on is progressing quickly, because now I have loose stools every day and I’m becoming more fatigued.
Went to the doctor yesterday and got a general autoimmune panel as well as the tTG IgA for Celiac. The stuff on my eyelids looks like a heliotrope rash, so the doctor was initially suspecting dermatomyositis. But my bloodwork results are starting to come in and so far, everything is pointing away from that. I don’t have the muscle weakness that comes with DM either.
My skin symptoms don’t appear typical, but I’m pretty sure I have Celiac. Both of my siblings have very severe cases of Celiac. My mom has never been formally diagnosed, but had chronic sinus infections that went away when she went on a gluten-free diet. My paternal grandmother and maternal uncle also have it, they get extremely sick if glutened.
It would honestly be a relief to me to get a positive diagnosis, because I know exactly what it is and how to heal. It’s getting to the point where the rashes are so severe and widespread that I don’t even want to leave the house.
