AITAH for refusing to give a ride
My sister started a new job that is a 45 minute round trip from our home. She is in her mid 20s and does not have a driver license. There is no reason besides her simply not choosing to practice driving. The only people who can drive in my house are myself and my mom. When my sister started her new job, I tried to encourage her to figure out alternative ways to get to work (bus/UBER) in cases my mom wouldn’t be able to drop her off. I said this in hopes to encourage her to plan ahead, but instead got yelled at for insulting my sister for suggesting she take the bus. After that, I haven’t mentioned anything about her work.
My sister’s new job has now put her on the graveyard shift. She needs to be dropped off by 10PM. My mom has her own business which provides her some flexibility in her schedule. So far she has been able to pick up and drop off my sister. Recently, I’ve noticed there have been days where my sister or mom will come and ask me for a ride to work last minute (typically a few hours before the shift starts).
To me, not asking ahead of time when they both know my mom can’t drop off my sister felt like neither cared or valued my time. I tried to voice my concerns again, and asked my mom to give me atleast a day notice (not a few hours) if they wanted me to drop off my sister. This conversation went equally as bad, where I got yelled at for being selfish and not caring for my family.
Despite how hard the conversation was for me (I cried a lot lol), I thought I was clear enough about my needs. Turns out I was wrong as my sister asked me for a ride again today, only a few hours before her shift, despite my mom knowing all day she wouldn’t be dropping her off. Now my mom has yelled at me again, leaving me wondering if I’m in the wrong for asking for a proper heads up. So, AITAH?
