What Is Mad Honey?

Mad honey is a rare rhododendron honey known for its natural grayanotoxin content, traditional Himalayan/Turkish origins, strong taste, and powerful effects when taken incorrectly.

What makes it different from regular honey is a natural compound called grayanotoxin. In very small amounts, this compound is what gives mad honey its famous “warming” or slightly unusual effect. That is also why it should be treated with respect, not like normal table honey.

Traditionally, himalayan mad honey has been harvested from wild cliffside bee colonies in the Himalayan region. In Nepal, this is often done by local honey hunters who climb steep cliffs using ropes and traditional methods. So it is not just a honey product; it is also connected to a very old harvesting culture.

Taste-wise, mad honey is usually darker, earthy, floral, slightly bitter, and stronger than regular honey. Some people take tiny amounts for the experience, while others are interested in its cultural and traditional background.
