Hoe do you send an excuse letter to professors?

I'm an incoming freshie and unfortunately June 10 is my graduation day. I also decided to be absent on June 11 since I have to submit my requirements to my previous school. How do you send the formal letter of absence to the professors? Via email or a printed letter?
