Non-tra internation high school

Hey everyone, looking for advice/similar experiences.

Background:

  • Currently a first-year at a mid-tier US state university
  • attended a school in China for middle school (9th grade equivalent), then a Chinese local high school for grades 10-12, since Chinese highschool follows 3-year system
  • Have 10-12 grade transcripts + high school graduation certificate from the Chinese local high school
  • Will apply with 30+ college credits completed

The problem: My 9th grade school is no longer reachable — no contact information, essentially defunct. I cannot obtain a 9th grade transcript no matter what.

Schools I'm applying to: UChicago (TED), Columbia SEAS, Cornell, Northwestern, UMich, UIUC, Georgia Tech, Purdue, UW Madison

My questions:

  1. Will schools like UChicago, Columbia, Cornell automatically mark my application incomplete and not review it at all because of the missing 9th grade transcript?
  2. Has anyone been in a similar situation — missing part of their high school record due to an unreachable international institution — and successfully gotten schools to waive or work around it?
  3. Is emailing admissions beforehand to explain the situation and get written confirmation the right move? Or does it not help?

I'm planning to email all schools in October before applications open to explain my situation, but honestly I'm not sure if even that will be enough for the top schools. Would really appreciate any insight from people who've been through something similar or know how these schools handle edge cases.
