Ghibli tickets sell out in an hour. If you are going in July or August, read this first

If your Japan trip lands in July or August, Wednesday 10 June is your Ghibli sale and it is worth getting ahead of now. We have watched too many people find out about the system the week of their trip, by which point the tickets they wanted are long gone!

Here is the timing. The Ghibli Museum in Tokyo releases one month ahead, so Wednesday covers July visits, and it opens at 10am Japan time. The Ghibli Park in Nagoya releases two months ahead, so Wednesday is the August sale, and it opens at 2pm Japan time. Different venues, different release windows, same day.

A few things we have learned the hard way. You cannot buy on the day, both venues check your passport against the name on the ticket, and the direct booking site is genuinely stressful when demand is high. Log in early, have a backup browser open, and do not count on a relaxed experience.

If you would rather not sit through the scramble, personal shoppers buy in your name and book up fast for each sale, so reach out a week or two before rather than the night before.

Before Wednesday, read our Ghibli tickets megathread pinned at the top of the sub. It has the full step-by-step for both venues, current prices, the passport rules and what to expect inside, so you walk into the sale knowing exactly what to do. Got a question about your specific dates? Ask it in there, and we will answer. That way, the next person searching finds it too.

If you are in this sale, are you going DIY or using a shopper? And has anyone got a direct-booking strategy that actually worked for them?
