What's a trusted place to buy used phones?

And can getting used phones be a security issue? How do you wipe everything from a phone before seling?

My family is deathly scared of used phones. My dad doesn't sel old phones and doesn't get used ones. We have like 5 iPhone 5s and 4s laying around lmao.
