Need advice on a situation

So I’ve been consistently messaging with this guy for 3 weeks now. We met on a dating app and I really liked him and his messages were always very thorough and considerate. We learned quite a bit about each other in these 3 weeks of messaging and I felt like we had a lot in common too.

Now I’m definitely not a casual dater, or a casual person for that matter so I stopped messaging others matches as I got to know him more. I was basically only messaging him exclusively.

Anyway, fast forward to today, we were supposed to meet for our first date. I got up and ready. Two hours before I was supposed to set off, he texts me saying he’s sorry but he wants to ‘postpone’ the date as he went on a date on Thursday and she’s asked for a second date and he feels bad on her if he goes out with me. I’ve definitely been told I’m too nice before but anyway, I message back saying that’s fine, and that I appreciate his honesty. He then sent me a voice note saying he’d like to still stay in touch with me and he thinks I’m really nice.

Now I’m very new to all this, and I’m pretty inexperienced when it comes to dating, I’m also a very sensitive person, especially when it comes to rejections. So I’ve basically been beating myself up over this all day, it’s pretty pathetic but I even cried a little bit.

He still wants to message me and part of me would like to as I did really like him but I’m not realising that maybe that might not be a good idea for me.

I should also mention that there is a pretty significant age difference between us, he’s 52 and I’m 24, but neither of us had an issue with this.
