Has anyone divorced a man they liked?

Thinking about leaving

My husband (38M) and I (39F) have been together 14 years and married for 10. No kids.

He suffers from PTSD and depression. He has a good therapist and takes medication, but still has bad days often.

I am beginning to realize that he is a deeply unhappy person. I think he always has been and I didn’t want to see it. I am generally optimistic and have a zest for life. There’s so much I want to see and do.

He is kind to me. He loves me and our cats. We don’t fight, but his mood sets the tone of our house and I can always tell in the morning what kind of day it will be. When he is in a mood, he’s very emotionally distant and I often feel lonely.

We have sex once per week and it’s fine. I don’t particularly feel any passion from either of us (though I do feel closer emotionally to him after).

As I’m nearing 40, I’m really starting to examine my life and my choices.

The thought of divorce is very scary to me. I have a lot of guilt even thinking about it (especially because of his mental health struggles).

I’m curious if anyone else has gone through this. I’m not in perimenopause yet (as far as I know), so I don’t think it’s hormonal. I wonder if I’m just done dealing with a sad man’s moods.
