Clan Overview

Overview

The Hrafnsson Clan is an ancient Scandinavian sorcerer lineage whose history is inseparable from the wilderness of northern Europe. Long before the Great Scarring, the clan built its reputation as hunters, scouts, guides, and monster slayers capable of navigating lands that most people considered impossible to survive. Unlike organizations that pursued political influence or territorial dominance, the Hrafnssons devoted themselves to mastering pursuit, survival, and information gathering. Their central belief is simple: every living thing leaves behind a trail, and every trail can be followed by those patient enough to read it.

Following the Great Scarring, the clan became one of the most valuable organizations in northern Europe. As nations collapsed beneath overwhelming curse activity, Hrafnsson hunters established safe routes through cursed territories, recovered isolated settlements, escorted refugee caravans, and hunted dangerous cursed spirits threatening surviving communities. Though relatively small compared to major powers, their influence extends across vast regions due to their unmatched tracking abilities, extensive network of lodges, and mastery of reconnaissance. Few organizations know more about what moves through the wild places of Europe than the Hrafnssons.

Clan History

History

Founding Era

The Hrafnssons originated among isolated northern settlements plagued by curses, brutal winters, and dangerous wilderness. Their ancestors developed specialized hunting methods and survival techniques that would eventually become the foundation of the clan’s identity.

Rise to Power

As trade expanded throughout northern Europe, the Hrafnssons became renowned as trackers, guides, and curse hunters. Their ability to recover missing individuals, locate cursed artifacts, and navigate hostile territory made them indispensable to countless communities.

The Great Scarring

The Great Scarring devastated much of Europe, but the clan’s mobility and survival expertise allowed them to adapt. Hidden lodges were established throughout Scandinavia, creating safe routes through cursed territory and ensuring the survival of countless settlements.

Modern Day

Under Eirik Hrafnsson’s leadership, the clan continues to expand its influence through exploration, intelligence gathering, artifact recovery, and long-range expeditionary operations. Their hunters regularly undertake missions that most organizations consider impossible.

Unique Traits

Hollow-Bone Physiology

Most Hrafnsson bloodlines possess an unusual skeletal structure composed of lightweight, reinforced bone. This adaptation grants exceptional agility, balance, climbing ability, and mobility while maintaining combat effectiveness. Members are capable of traversing difficult terrain with remarkable speed and efficiency.

All-Seeing Eyes

The majority of clan members possess near 360-degree vision. This grants extraordinary situational awareness and makes ambushes exceptionally difficult. However, transparent surfaces such as clean glass can occasionally create perceptual blind spots that interfere with depth perception.

Inherited Technique

Allfather’s Grace

The hereditary cursed technique of the Hrafnsson Clan manifests a pair of avian shikigami dedicated to observation and pursuit. One bird serves as the user’s eyes, relaying visual, auditory, and cursed energy information directly to their mind, while the other specializes in interpreting cursed energy residuals and tracking specific signatures over immense distances. The technique allows users to reconstruct events, identify concealed threats, pursue elusive targets, and transform battlefields into vast networks of information. Though not inherently destructive, Allfather’s Grace is considered one of the most effective reconnaissance and tracking techniques in Europe.

Cursed Tools

Hrafnsker

A clan-forged hunting knife carried by nearly every Hrafnsson hunter. The blade absorbs trace amounts of cursed energy from anything it cuts, allowing users to collect residual samples for tracking and analysis.

Raven’s Bite

A Grade 1 cursed tool traditionally reserved for elite hunters and clan leadership. Taking the form of a compact hunting axe, Raven’s Bite stores traces of cursed energy gathered through contact, making it exceptionally effective during pursuit operations.

Gungnir’s Whisper

A Grade 1 cursed longbow wielded by the clan’s finest marksmen. The bow subtly adjusts the trajectory of arrows toward recognized cursed energy signatures, dramatically improving accuracy over long distances.

Trailmaker Spear

A lightweight hunting spear used by pursuit specialists. Any wound inflicted by the spear leaves behind a lingering cursed energy marker that greatly simplifies future tracking attempts.

Skadi’s Fang

A rare Grade 1 heirloom seax reserved for the clan’s most accomplished hunters. Unlike ordinary tracking tools, Skadi’s Fang can temporarily anchor a target’s cursed energy residuals to reality. Individuals wounded by the blade leave behind a cursed trail that resists natural dissipation and remains traceable for days. Because its use effectively condemns a target to being hunted, only a handful of these blades exist, and receiving one is considered among the highest honors within the clan.

Hunting Groups

The Flock

The clan’s premier expeditionary hunting unit and most prestigious field team. The Flock specializes in long-range hunts, reconnaissance missions, artifact recovery, and high-risk operations beyond established clan territory. Membership is considered one of the greatest honors a Hrafnsson hunter can earn.

Combat Assets

The Hrafnsson Clan maintains approximately four hundred active hunters spread throughout Scandinavia. Their ranks include a Special Grade 1 clan head, multiple Grade 1 Huntmasters, veteran trackers, marksmen, scouts, and expedition leaders.

Supporting these hunters are over one thousand non-combat personnel consisting of blacksmiths, merchants, archivists, beast handlers, lodge keepers, historians, and support staff. Rather than relying on overwhelming force, the clan projects influence through mobility, intelligence gathering, and highly specialized personnel.

Resources

The clan sustains itself through bounty contracts, cursed spirit extermination, artifact recovery, intelligence gathering, escort operations, expedition services, and trade conducted through its network of lodges. Many of these lodges serve simultaneously as safehouses, information exchanges, trading posts, and emergency shelters for travelers crossing cursed territories.

Secret

The Raven Roads

Few outsiders realize the true extent of the Hrafnsson Clan’s infrastructure. Hidden throughout northern Europe exists an interconnected network of lodges, supply caches, observation posts, and emergency shelters collectively known as the Raven Roads. Maintained over generations, these routes allow clan hunters to travel immense distances while remaining supplied, informed, and largely unseen. Most maps of the Raven Roads exist only in fragmented form, and even many clan members know only the sections relevant to their region. Through this network, the Hrafnssons can mobilize hunters, transmit information, and conduct operations across vast territories far more efficiently than their numbers would suggest.
