New here: what actually counts as 'enough' karma to post in most subs?

So I've been trying to post to communities but it seems like reddit just keeps removing my post or their moderators. Turns out I needed 'karma'. I've been commenting on the community postings but no luck of gaining said 'karma'. Please help, I really would like to start sharing content to communities and get some feedback.
