None of the guys in my class acknowledge the girls in the class? Am I being crazy?
I am currently taking a summer with 8 people. There are 6 guys and 2 girls (me and another girl, and we’re both black). I don’t really interact with the other girl but I can tell she is shy and reserved like me. I have notice that when I come in the room, the guys will stare at me, then go back to what they’re doing, but when another guy comes in they immediately start a group conversation. When I overhear them, they’re usually talking about class or homework. I don’t really care to talk to them, but it makes me feel left out. What have I done wrong? This one time, we needed paper (I don’t usually bring paper). The guy sitting next me saw that I didn’t have paper and didn’t do/say anything. The other girl gave me paper. In that situation I understand, he didn’t have too, but that girl was across the room from me and still gave me paper. I have also noticed that they always try to correct and talk over the TA and make her seem me stupid?, and 9/10, she is right, but I never see this behavior with the male professor. Also, when a guy asks a question, the other guys are quick to answer, but with me or her, it’s silence. I feel like it’s misogynoir, but my friend is saying it’s all in my head and I need to be comfortable enough to talk to them. This girl and I have literally done nothing wrong, so if it’s not misogynoir, then what is it? This is the only class for the whole summer semester, so I’m stuck in the class.
