Everyone told me my AI startup was "just a wrapper." So I rebuilt it.

Six months ago I launched what I thought was a solid product. An AI thinking partner for founders ( foundersideai.com ) helps you work through decisions, remember context, act like a smart co-founder.

The feedback was brutal.

"This is just a ChatGPT wrapper with a nicer UI."
"What's actually different here?"
"You're going to get killed by the next GPT update."

And honestly? They weren't entirely wrong. I had a pretty interface on top of a model. That's it.

So instead of arguing, I went quiet and rebuilt for a while.

Here's what changed:

The positioning is gone. "AI thinking partner" was just vibes. The product now has to actually do things while you're not there.

Daily briefings , every morning you get a rundown of what matters. Not a summary you asked for. One that shows up before you even open the app.

Agents that work while you sleep, you set the goal, the agent figures out the steps, executes them, comes back with results. You wake up to work done, not a chat history.

Custom alerts , tell it what to watch. Competitor moves, specific keywords, business metrics. It pings you when something hits.

Memory that actually sticks , not just "oh, I remember you mentioned that once." Structured memory across time. The agent knows your business, your preferences, your history with a client.

Specialized agents + build your own — different agents for different jobs. Research, analysis, writing. Or define your own with a custom prompt and toolset.

The "wrapper" criticism stings because it's a real failure mode. A lot of AI products are just thin layers that disappear the moment the underlying model gets smarter.

The only defense against that is building around the model. Orchestration, memory, scheduling, integrations — the stuff that makes an agent actually useful day-to-day.

Still early. Still building. But it's a fundamentally different product than what I shipped six months ago.

What made you finally take negative feedback seriously instead of dismissing it?
