Dusty coat?

I've noticed my cat's skin looks dry and is flaky and she is always shedding lots, she has a vet appointment soon but any other things I should keep in mind or add to her diet? I make sure to put water in her kibble and fish oil but the fish oil doesn't seem to help with the her skin much.
