My dad is gay and I confronted him

Relationships

I'm 19F. As we know being homosexual in India is still not widely accepted and for someone growing up in the 80s, it would have been even harder.

My dad (58) has been in a loveless marriage with my mother for the past 24 years. I grew up in a chaotic household where my parents fought almost every day. When I was around 8 years old, I accidentally caught my dad watching gay corn, though I didn't understand what I was seeing at the time.

As I got older, I started noticing more signs that I couldn't ignore. For years, I kept quiet because I was scared. My father is the only earning member of our family. My mother is nearly uneducated, financially dependent on him and completely unaware of what he's been doing.

Over the years, he has cheated on my mother with multiple men. Recently, he started bringing younger men, some around my age, to our house. That was the last straw for me.

Last night, I finally gathered the courage to confront him. I told him that I knew everything. He immediately started defending himself by making excuses. He blamed other men for approaching him and denied as much as he could. I tried to be understanding. I told him that being gay wasn't the wrong part. Lying to my mother and living a double life for years, was wrong. I even had proof of some of what I was talking about.

What shocked me the most was his reaction. He showed no remorse, guilt or any concern for how all of this had affected me growing up. He didn't acknowledge what it was like for me to witness years of fighting, secrecy and infidelity. It felt like he simply didn't care.

This morning, he acted as if the conversation never happened.

I don't even know what I'm feeling right now. Part of me feels relieved that I finally said it out loud. Another part of me feels angry and disappointed.

Has anyone else confronted a parent about something this big? How do I deal with this?😭
