Lifetime Membership - for my needs?

Help

I’m trying to decide if lifetime Plex membership is worth it.

As far as I can tell, it seems like the greatest benefit is having access to your media remotely. I don’t do that now so not sure how much it will benefit.

I currently use Sonos for my music library, which has over 20,000 songs. I’ve updated all of my music meta data using BrainzPicard so they’re in very good shape. IMO Sonos is not a music manager, but more a player with playlist capabilities.

I also have lots of photos (65,000 +) that I use DigiKam to manage.

My video library is sparse and I don’t see me investing much time or money going forward with all the streaming services and on-demand available.

I first heard about Plex when I was looking for a program that could help manage my music files, so my initial primary interest was music. As I played around it was nice to have the photos and videos (limited) available on one platform.

I recently subscribed to Plex Pass for a month when the lifetime increase was announced. I was hoping to use Plexamp to develop AI playlists to explore / enjoy some of the deep dark corners of my music library. I guess I knew, but didn’t realize that I would need to spend $ on AI engine to develop those playlists. Separately I’ve used ChatGPT to create basic, playlists and that’s been working somewhat.

I also didn’t realize I would need to keep my computer on all the time or set up a NAS to use my music and photos remotely.

So my bottom line: I don’t think the lifetime investment will be worth it for me.

Am I missing something? Do you have a similar situation and use Plex for more? Are there less well known capabilities that I should conside? Please share so I can make the most informed decision before the increase date. Thank you.
