How did the Japanese public react to the heavy losses at Port Arthur?

Reading about the battle, it sounds like thousands of lives were thrown away on attacks that didn't accomplish much in the early stages of the battle. Was there backlash to this from the Japanese public, especially those who lost sons/husbands in the battle?
