Things about the Indian queer scene that am not very fond of
Hear me out, most of the Indian queer people are one of the greatest, lovingly, aware people that I have met on earth. These individuals have helped me in coming out , inspiring me and loving myself.
Firstly, Most of the Indian queer scene is filled with silent queer influencers who receive fame and traction by benefitting themselves off of queer normalisation which has taken years to be done by aware active queer ppl within the community and their vivid contribution throughout history. These privileged queer influencers, when they are asked to talk about ongoing queer struggles remain silent.. which is selfish and narcissistic. Talk about the rejection of trans bill in 2026 and the hundreds of Queer ppl who were scared to talk about it or remained silent while they were taking pics with a privileged openly transphobic maga person.
Hatred on effeminity and femininity in general. Trans-femme people or people who represent themselves to be femme are often looked at with hate and dislike when met in terms of dating or engagement. I have seen trans-femme girls who are not "trans passing" not getting many likes or upvotes in here compared to masc guys who are flooded with flirty comments.
Bttm shaming, femme shaming is an active thing which goes on in the community. Transphobia is another
Talking about the privileged queer guys .. I have seen many privileged people openly support content on the internet that makes fun of trans people, mocks them for their appearance.. as if they are not a part of the problem. I have seen many closeted gay guys bullying other people based on their lifestyles. Shivkanya, a trans woman on the internet was shamed for what her twitter was based on. Gay guys who actually enjoyed her content cancelled her engagements with brands or deals, which is shameful and disgusting to do.
Gen-z s try to do their best showing "clock it" while forgetting that it actually came from queer ballrooms. They openly shame people with the word 'hizda' while these are the same guys who only know about lgbtq based on privileged queer ppl .. and think of it as a glorious life to live with. Most of them assume gay ppl are always rich and when they are met with underprivileged gay people on the internet.. it becomes a topic of laughter for them.
We really need to do better as a society and queer individuals, what about the early queer scene in America, where people chose people as family, fought for the rights and actively lived their lives, which was met with activism.
