Kinda need help

Me and this guy I know are both clearly gay and like eachother as we have been sending dih pics back and forth for about 6 months now,however the problem is that whenever we see eachother at school we never actually speak to eachother. I really like this guy but I don’t know how to ask him out because I’m kind of scared that if I ask him out or some other equivalent he might just completely break contact and not even send dih pics anymore.Need advice on what to do
