AITA (F26) wondering if it’s normal to feel so bad after being insulted (M34)

NTA

I don’t really know how to explain this clearly so I’m just going to write it how it happened.
My partner and I got into a conflict after I sent an emotional message. He had promise he’d come back over as I had been making him a specific to his taste dinner, after he went to hangout with his friend for an hour. He left around 7pm said he’d hangout for an hour didn’t really say much until 1:30am. This has been a pattern in the past where he overpromises so I did already know he wasn’t coming back, and I guess I felt frustrated he was promising that to me over and over when I knew it was untrue. In my message I was basically expressing that I was really looking forward to spending time together, I’ve been under a lot of and I was trying to have one calm evening where I wasn’t spiraling which is why it upset me.

His response escalated very quickly.
He started calling me selfish
said I don’t care about anyone but myself
said I don’t wear my engagement ring / “you’re not my fiancée” (we got engaged a few days ago, the ring is too big)
sent multiple insulting messages about me, called me fake and told me I didn’t actually delete my instagram (I did deactivate it to avoid an issue it wasn’t worth it to me)

This happens everytime. It’s insults on me personally, and usually my parenting as well as I have a kiddo from a very very bad situation I got out of where he tells me I’m selfish for even having thoughts about her dad etc and I probably just wanna be with him.
Then he apologies but idk. I don’t even wanna respond this time. It sticks with me. And I’m always the bad guy. I get in my head about it that and wonder if I’m actually bad.

He also brings up suicide during arguments or said things like he “can’t go on” when we fight
used “emergency” language to get me to answer a call when i needed space

After this, I felt really shut down and didn’t want to keep engaging.

Now I feel kind of numb and like I don’t even want to message him anymore at all.
I guess my question is if I’m in the wrong? I try not to be insultive if that helps for context. Even when I’m at my max anger I’m careful nowadays to not say anything personal. So it feels like escalation out of nowhere (to me)

But I don’t really know if this could be something normal? He’s not physically aggressive or anything like that. Do some people just respond like this? Is there something I could do to learn how to handle this?

I just feel horrible when I’m the one apologizing after these things and the words stick with me. My heart is sank while I type this but I just feel numb at the same time
