I kept guessing whether I hit my 22 hours, so I built a free aligner wear-time tracker (no ads, no subscription)
Hey everyone — longtime lurker, currently on tray 3 of my treatment.
Honestly the trays themselves were never the hard part for me. The hard part was the **22-hours-a-day** rule. I'd pop them out for lunch, get pulled into something, and then have no clue if they'd been out for 15 minutes or an hour. By the end of the day I genuinely couldn't tell if I'd hit my hours or not — and that uncertainty stressed me out way more than the aligners did.
I'm a software dev, so I built a tiny app to fix it for myself. Figured I'd share in case anyone else lives the same daily guessing game.
It's called **TraySwitch**. The whole thing is built around one tap:
- **Tap when your aligners come out, tap when they go back in.** That's it.
- It shows your **wear time for the day** and how much "out" time you have left before you blow past your 2-hour budget.
- A **Live Activity** sits on your Lock Screen + Dynamic Island with a running out-timer, so you can check without opening the app. You can also start/stop it from the **Action Button, Control Center, or Siri**.
A few things on purpose:
- **Completely free.** No ads, no subscription, no in-app purchases. Every feature's included.
- **No account, no sign-in.** Everything stays on your phone (optional iCloud sync goes to *your* iCloud, which I can't see). No analytics, no trackers.
I'm genuinely not trying to sell anything — there's nothing to buy. I just wanted the tracker I wish I'd had on day one, and I'd love feedback from people actually doing the 22-hour grind. **What would make this genuinely useful for you?** Anything that annoys you about how you track wear time right now?
*(Mods — hope this is okay. Happy to remove it if it crosses the self-promo line. Putting the link in a comment instead of the post.)*
