Thoughts on the finale after rewatch
So I went to see the finale on the 5th and then the day after my friend had to cancel their plans and gave me their ticket so I went to see it again today and so I thought I'd give a perspective of someone who's already rewatched it.
On first watch I kinda hated the whole thing, mostly because of pacing issues and I still think another episode was needed to really let Jax and Caines' arcs feel more important and have their own dedicated episodes.
I still felt hollow inside walking out of theatres both times but in a good way, it shows how much the show as a whole impacted me.
After rewatch, tbh the finale has grown on me a lot. It still has its problems but I think it's at least a decent ending that just needed more time to flesh out Caines redemption (and survival like wtf) and have more time letting Jax's death really hit.
I still remain of the opinion that Gooseworx really did make Jax irredeemable. Imo there was just no forgiving his actions to Ribbit just because of the maliciousness around it. The way he isolates her not only from Kinger and Ragatha, but most importantly her only other actual friend Kaufmo still makes me feel all the worst emotions in all the right ways. Ribbit was definitely a victim of Jax and the way it essentially breaks him over time is deserved. Also I liked the small inclusion of him belittling himself in the mirror after Kaufmo abstracts, it really fit his character perfectly.
Caine getting redeemed was still okay, I like the concept more than the execution, mainly because he should be dead but its more like they teleported him away just to tip Jax over the edge but whatever. I really hate whatever was going on with the blue AI. The show seems to imply that the blue AI was the cause of the crashout in ep 8 but that feels shoehorned in massively so we get a sad farewell to something that nobody really understands what it is.
Scratch was wasted entirely but he was never really a character so I can look past it and just say that he wanted to live forever as a brain scan and then changed I mind ig (yes it's nonsense)
I'd be a sucker for prequel content of this show for more Ribbit and Kaufmo, but we definitely could use more info on the original Circus members and what ever the blue AI is doing in the show but that's just coping for more of the show.
6/10 for just the finale's writing but an 8/10 overall. (For reference I gave the finale a 5/10 the first time I watched it so I've switched up a lot in a day lol)
