[HEAVY SPOILERS] TADC Finale thoughts
I know we all predicted Jax abstracting, but... Holy.. fucking... Shit.
First, let me thank everyone at the NRV Cinema for being NORMAL compared to most places that dealt with screaming kids and people throwing shit. Sorry if you heard me clear my throat a few times idk why I was doing it. Anywho,
I greatly enjoyed the finale, but the pacing was a little... Eh. I feel like too much happened all at once, y'know? It was a lot to process. But voice acting, as always, was amazing. I deeply enjoyed getting to experience things through Jax's POV. Seeing his relationship with Ribbit was both adorable and heartbreaking. But it provides a great understanding of what happened between them. Finally getting Jax being able to be vulnerable with Pomni, even in his abstracted state, was immensely bittersweet. I was somehow hoping she'd be able to bring him back, but I guess it was... Expected that she couldn't. (Also, I giggled about her being so tiny that she had to hug his legs.)
I was pissed at him for snapping and bringing up Ragatha's mother like that, but I also understand WHY he was upset. I do agree that his abstraction could be a metaphor for some kind of suicide. I don't think he was ever destined to stay long. We all knew he wouldn't last. He was doomed since the very start, y'know?
I wish we saw HOW he got the C&A headset. But getting his backstory about his own mother explained so much. I also enjoyed seeing all of his different sides when Pomni goes into his mind. It was also so tense, seeing her in Ragatha's shoes and learning why she was distant from him.
If it's true that Ragatha was trying to "fix" him, then I understand why he was starting to dislike her. Of course, I don't agree about him choking her... But still. It is definitely insulting to be told you need to be fixed.
By the end, as we learned that Caine was able to show everyone what was really happening out there in the real world, I started to cry. Like, genuinely. Tears just started flowing. I couldn't stop. The deeper it went. About Pomni's human counterpart. About everybody out there, living their best lives, with Jax himself (or Leroy) finding healing after what happened with his mother. I couldn't stop myself from weeping. The fact that, even though his digital clone is gone, the real Jax is out there, making friends with the real versions of the others... I feel like that was great closure. Caine's redemption was amazing, too.
Deeply appreciated that the theater stayed quiet during "The One Who's Running The Show." Very 10/10 experience. Even as I cried.
Glad I made the dude next to me chuckle by mumbling "Holy shit" after it ended lol.
So, yeah. I'm satisfied! I enjoyed it. It was... Emotional. A lot to process. Seeing them build a little place for the abstractions to live in was beautiful, too. I honestly can't wait to see the next project Gooseworx will make, if she decides to do more animations. She and the cast deserve a very long, well-earned break.
The ending was bittersweet. And I think that was what it needed. Not something hopeless, not something like a fairytale... Something realistic. Speaking of, I enjoyed the realism of the fight between Ribbit and Jax. It was so tense. So full of distress, fear, desperation... It was so well-done.
Congrats to the team for making it to the big screen. You earned it.
To quote Jax;
"That's all, freaks!"
