Hares
Unlike rabbits in large numbers they do not abound
And unlike rabbits they don't live in burrows in the ground
Among humans and foxes, cats and dogs they do not have a friend
And on their speed and dodging ability for survival depend
In tall grass or cover from sight hidden away
They fitfully rest during the light of day
And if they sense danger near them at a rapid pace
As fast as they can run from cover they race
Hares mostly brown except in the Arctic winter they turn white
Which in the snow from predators camouflage them in the daylight
Than a hare for a predator to catch there is far easier prey
For them a young hare in its prime a hard earned meal of the day
On their very survival they depend on their speed
Hares they are amazing creatures indeed.
