Wish the patriarch was more of a backline unit.
I am not one to complain about lore vs tabletop, usuay....
But that the Patriarch is just a big scary monster seems slightly disappointing.
And I get it, you can justify it lore wise that with his discovery, the cult is gonna die anyway, one way or another. But I don't buy that.
Despite him being replaceable its still a pretty big setback for the cult to lose one, as they are temporarily without leadership and vulnerable. Until a new one rises, they are easy pickings.
Yes, during the day of ascension his survival really doesn't matter.... but you are telling me that the best use for a hyper genius psycher alien that leads a planetary restitence for untold years is to be a hand to hand combatant? You don't think that his talents in leadership miiiight be useful?? Or his powerful psychic abilities??
A Patriarch death means the broodmind is severed or at least weaker! It's in the cults best interest to keep him alive till the very end. For an army build around guerilla warfare, their leader is sure willing to throw his life away in glorious melee.
