How do I remove my phone number from Instagram?

I've tried for weeks to log into my art account because, you know. Effort. And work. And I'm proud of it but I can't get into it because my phone number was canceled and there's two step verification on it. Now, before you say "why didnt you remove it before you canceled your number?"

1. I didnt cancel my number. I'm a minor and my family and I went on vacation so my mom found it easier to just cancel it than continue paying it.

2. The idea was come back the next month n get it back, but we ended up staying permanently (something I didn't find out until roughly two weeks before it ended) and now that number is permanently gone.

I've tried to change the number, remove two-step verification, hell- at some point it recommended me to change my password so I did? And it made it SLIGHTLY easier.

I got to the point where it finally let me change it, but I had to do the two-step verification. "Well okay" I thought cuz I got a notification with a Instagram code and then much to my dismay, it had me verify it with a number I don't have anymore. NOR that I can use because I live in a completely different continent now. Does- anyone have any idea what to do? I'm genuinely at the point of tears I don't want to lose this account :(
