No wonder traffic is so terrible here.
So last weekend, trying to go absolutely anywhere was an absolute nightmare, i know, i had to go from the city i live in to another city for a family birthday, and instead of taking 1hr as it usually does, it took over 2hrs, why?
Well the geniuses that run the City of Toronto decided it would be an absolutely fantastic idea to shut down the Gardiner Expressway (our only Downtown east-west highway for a region of 10million ppl), shut down the regional rail line that parallels the Gardiner Expressway a few min south and replace it with busses, and also shut down the Subway thats paralell to both and replace that with busses too.
Like seriously, who the fuck in their right mind signed off on this? They should be fired and banned from working on any kind of traffic management or transit project for the rest of their existence.
Oh yea heres a bright idea, lets close all the rail lines so people will just drive downtown, oh oh oh, and too, lets close the highway going Downtown so they have to take already gridlocked surface streets, oh, and the cherry on top, were going to add hundreds of busses onto those same surface streets and to the highways thatl be backed up from those people trying to detour, What could possibly go wrong!
Like dont get me wrong, i completely understand that to improve infrastructure and build stuff, disruptions and closures need to happen, thats not what im complaining about, its the absolute lack of coordination. If your going to close the highway, then keep the paralell transit routes operational and close those a diffrent weekend, and vice versa. Even without this madness, the city is already gridlocked to shit, all day, every day and well into the night, not to mention they did this on a weekend with beautiful weather, events going on downtown and on top of regular road and lane closures on surface streets.
