Crossed Family Values

discussion

Such a mixed bag. Crossed could be so much so but I feel like it holds itself back on what it could be. They have to make things so weird and convoluted when they really don't have to.

Spoilers for Family Values!

Making the dad of the Pratt clan a rapist is just gross. I guess it serves the story? But I feel like the story is the same if you make him a normal dad. I think it would be even more tragic. But no, it has to be weird and off putting and complicated. He has to be a crazy prophet person screwing his kids because of course, he's a human survivor in the Crossed world and you have to be a monster to survive. You could have made the saddle maker a son learning his craft from his sick father (who lives with the family out of loyalty or something.)

Maybe the son has a crush on one of the Pratt girls and when they turn Crossed it's a tragic thing. This series has emotional beats but it's always turned up to the most extreme thing. Maybe it's because they don't have enough time, but dang dude, you have 8 or 9 issues. The bandits just being bandits just because... I don't know. It's SO cynical and gross. I don't know if Addy truly earned her happy ending. She endured a lot of things but she got the ending I think Amanda should have earned. The Crossed are the most extreme part, as they should. But when the regular humans are cartoonists evil it's like, what's the point? To constantly make the point that humans are bad too? That's boring.

Also what the mother does to the kid and her husband... ugh. Tasteless. Crossed could be so much more. Sometimes, restraint isn't a bad thing.
