[Spoilers C4E28] A theory on Azgra's Barrowdell.
There's a question been floated a few times in C4 about why the land around the site of Azgra's death is the only one that hasn't been corrupted by his death. All of the other gods upon their deaths irreversibly damaged the world around them, which is strongly implied to be an act of spite on their part. So why would the ultra-evil god of war and destruction be the only one who not only doesn't do that, but actively blessed the land instead?
The two most popular theories seem to be that he respected his killer's strength enough that he rewarded them for their actions, or that he was so twisted that he viewed it as a punishment. I propose a third theory: the reason for both a lack of a Barrowdell and a blessing on the land is because Azgra took the old path.
As is confirmed in the most recent episode, the Faram ceremony is specifically the thing that leads a soul into reincarnation (it's mentioned by Brennan that Thjazi's soul might have been reincarnated by the ritual already when they try to use speak with dead on his body) And guess what ceremony was performed for Azgra shortly after his death, that is stated to have occurred just before the blooming of the land around his death*?*
If we consider the fact that all signs point to the dell's being a final "fuck you" from the gods, then maybe the reason why Azgra didn't generate one is because he was properly laid to rest instead of being killed and left to rot like the others. And this would be VERY fitting for the campaign as whole, as dignity in death is a huge theme throughout. Pretty much all of the PC's are in some way associated with loss, grieving, and death, with the main villains being corrupted psychopomps who abandoned their duty of giving dignity to the dead in favor of using it as a source of power. The first four episodes are even based around a funeral!
So that explains why there's no dell, but not why the land is so supernaturally blessed. My theory for this is simple. Basically, the old path "digested" Azgra's alien, divine essence and re-distributed it among the land instead of concentrating it into a single being as it had previously been, or being ejected over the land in a final act of spite. There's something poetic about the idea of this ancient, foreign, and vile being ending up being subsumed and recycled like everything else.
But all of that leaves a big question. If he reincarnated, then where and who? I'll just leave a quote from Thimble in the last episode
"Thjazi didn't want to be a god."
TLDR: Azgra's barrowdell being positive is a result of his soul being allowed to walk the old path instead of festering and poising the world, as well as his divine power interacting with the natural systems of the world.
