Famous fanfics you abandoned

Famous fanfics you abandoned: I'll start.

I was scrolling through tumblr and saw a list of must-read fanfics that everyone should read when entering the fandom (for those looking for recs), and i found one that i have never reread to this day, called: If They Haven't Learned Your Name by silentwalrus, and my note on my bookmark is from 2021 and just says "stopped at chapter 4" and i should probably give it another chance because in 2021 i still hadn't rewatched all the movies, so i was still kind of clueless, but anyway, for those who read and loved it, tell me if it's worth it, but i believe it definitely is, since it's basically on every rec list out there. and tell me: which stucky fanfic did you abandon but think you'll give another chance? comment so we can tell you whether it's worth it or not. note from 2021 me: i started reading the first part of nec and went: what a boring fanfic lol god it was so detailed, so long, but a year later i gave it another chance and i don't even need to say it: i cried buckets over the whole series.

Other fanfics that are also somewhat famous (more than 1k kudos) for you to see if any beloved ones i should maybe give another chance, i really hate abandoning reads, especially ones that have a big impact on the fandom, unless it's plots i hate. i want to give them another chance, so here we go:

This is the Ghost Story by Taste_is_Sweet (stopped at chapter 4);

Lullaby for Futures Lost by Oh_i_swear (read the first 2);

Knife Skills by Hark_bananas (lol this one is funny because i only abandoned it because i once asked here who bottoms and was told it's bucky, so i probably won't read it, and from what i did read, i felt everything moved too fast, i wanted them to take longer to find each other, judge me);

How to Fuck With (and Feed) Your Soulmate by BlueSimplicity (i loove this author and i almost finished this one, my notes show i read up to chapter 13, but i have no idea why i stopped);

There's Nothing to Save by camwolfe (i tried to read this one twice, i liked the beginning, but i think my reads must have a chapter 4 curse, because i stopped there too);

a marvelous gift by biblionerd07 (i love biblionerd, i stopped at chapter 13 but i remember absolutely nothing, i definitely need to be more descriptive in my bookmarks);

some say it makes the world go round by mambo (my note for this one is funny, it says: "not in a christmas mood right now..." maybe i'll give it another chance at christmas? stopped at chapter 9/10);

We're All in the Gutter, but Some of Us Are Looking at the Stars by chipofftheoldblock (i'm definitely not rereading this one, my note says the characters were very ooc);

my heart tells me you are lonely, too by FanGirling (stopped at chapter 10, but i don't remember anything either);

tin soldiers by idrilka (i stopped right at the first chapter because according to 2021 me, i couldn't handle the outsider pov, and forgive me, ok? i know this fanfic is like super famous, but i think i'll need to really improve my english reading skills to actually immerse myself (let me know if that's the wrong expression) in that perspective, as well as second-person narration, i can't connect with a story that way even in my native language. maybe i'll use google translate's automatic translation?);

Follows On Like Clockwork by youabird (nevulon) (abandoned this one because i found it ooc);

No One Likes Us But We Don't Care by Rainne (stopped at chapter 4: the chapter 4 curse, i'm noticing the pattern) because apparently it wasn't the same bucky? i didn't understand my own note, but i need to make a new post about things i hate in stucky fanfics and i should definitely include clones/another bucky replacing winter soldier bucky, if you know what i mean);

Past, Present, and Future(?) by betheflame (i simply loove kidfics, but de-aged is just not for me);

Oh Can't You See, You Belong To Me by deadto27 (i love love love deadto27, i have so many of her fics as favorites, but the chapter 4 curse got me on this one too);

Isn't It Ironic? (Don't You Think?) by HeyBoy, Huntress79, katy_writes (another one hit by the chapter 4 curse);

Finding Nina by MPantrochilles (stopped very early on, but it was in 2021 so i don't remember anything);

A lesson from Russia (with love) by Evil_Keshi (stopped at chapter 9);

like a road through mountains by icoulddothisallday (found steve boring and stopped at chapter 15);

Subjective Histories by Odsbodkins (this one i just never finished, no explanation.)

oh, and maybe one of the most recommended fanfics for me on this subreddit, which is: Operation: gross michael. i just saw a comment mentioning it and i remembered why i never added it to my bookmarks, because i remember exactly which scene was the last one i read. the sea turtles scene, that scene really moved me. so i read up to chapter 20, but i don't think of it as an abandoned read, more like an unfinished one, i'll go back to it someday, but i did think about quitting at several points. there are so many activist themes that for me, coming from another country, i had to keep stopping to think about american politics on the subject, and anyway, i even feel bad for saying that out loud, but maybe when i reread it i'll enjoy it more... but seriously, sometimes the geographical differences give me an actual headache when it comes to really getting into a fanfic without finding the characters ooc. it's like in other fanfics when the american healthcare system comes up. for me it's such a disconnect because in my country it's free that i just go: help, this is too much cruelty for me to handle. anyway. i just wanted to add this fanfic to the list.

No author bashing, please.
