Thought on this?
Long story short, I’m in a long distance relationship and I’m flying out to see my girlfriend because she made some mistakes that caused issues between us. We’ve been trying to work through things, so I decided to make the trip and give us a chance to reconnect in person.
Before I booked anything, I made it clear that I would only be staying for one week, possibly two if things went well between us. I was upfront about my plans from the beginning and told her there was one date that I absolutely could not miss my nephew’s 18th birthday. It’s an important milestone, and being there for him means a lot to me and my family.
Now that the trip is getting closer, she’s upset because she wants me to stay longer and leave on the exact day of my nephew’s birthday. The problem is that I already communicated my plans beforehand, and she knew about this commitment before I agreed to visit. From my perspective, I feel like I’ve already compromised by spending the time and money to travel and work on our relationship, while still trying to honor an important family obligation.
She’s making me feel guilty for not staying longer, but I don’t think it’s fair to expect me to cancel something I was honest about from the start. At the same time, I can understand why she wants more time together, especially given the distance between us.
