I might've made a potentially toxic task manager app 💀
Nothing has motivated me to stick to my habits and self-improvement more than seeing other people I identify with succeed. For example, I started lifting heavier in the gym after I started watching anime so I could be strong like the characters.
So I put my unemployed product designer skills to use and made iconic, a TickTick-like todo-list app where you can (optionally) attach a photo of something that motivates you to act right NEXT to the task, not at the bottom of it like TickTick. It can be a pic of a fictional character you want to look like, your mom, your pet, the consequences of not acting 💀, or literally just ANYTHING that inspires you to do the damn task. Could be a pic of your enemies if your goal is to be better than them...
I'm really afraid people are going to use this for negative inspiration, such as choosing pics of their toxic ex who clowned on them 😿
I also made multiple themes inspired by people I've met!
The pics are totally optional btw -- the tasks can be as minimal as Apple Reminders with just a header. You'll have a photo library so you don't have to upload a new photo with each task, just select something from the library.
You can turn any repeating task into a habit, which can be optionally added to the Habit Tracker screen. This habit tracker does NOT use streaks -- it only counts how often you hit "completed"!
Need a little extra motivation and accountability besides the hot people motivational photos you'll be uploading? I also created a Following wall where you can share selected tasks with your friends. Sharing is opt-in per task so you don't accidentally compromise privacy.
Unlike other social productivity apps, all you see from your friends is their tasks/habits + the inspiration pic they chose. There's no leaderboard, completion rates, or any competitive features -- I made it that way on purpose because I felt like other social productivity apps were to competitive and intense, especially with check-ins. My objective is to design for ambient, inspirational accountability with minimal guilt.
Like on social media, you can like other people's tasks ❤️ so each ❤️ serves as an unofficial reminder of your task. I'm not sure if I should add commenting.
You can mute friends if their habits or inspiration photos are toxic, like "eat only 900 calories today" with a photo of their ex.
So do you think an app that makes you LOOK at your inspiration would motivate you to get shit done? (Again, sticking photos or naming the photo isn't required, this app can be used just like a prettier Apple Reminders.)
Wouldn't it feel weird if you found out someone you don't know was using a picture of you for motivation?
I know I'll be using this everyday to stay on track of my habits! So check it out on the new website and get on the email waitlist while the app undergoes code review by more experienced devs than myself (I'm a product designer, I designed every screen myself with very little AI).
What pictures will you be sticking to your tasks/habits?
