Advice
I could really use some honest feedback because I feel like I’ve been running in circles for the past 8 months.
I’ve been studying for the MCAT for about 8 months now. Looking back, I think one of my biggest issues has been a complete lack of consistency. I keep jumping from one plan to another instead of sticking with something long enough to see if it works.
Some examples:
Started with Blueprint prep but wasn’t consistent with it.
Tried Wyzant tutoring and didn’t feel like it helped much.
I think I rushed through content review and moved into UWorld too quickly, but honestly I’m not even sure anymore.
Every few weeks I convince myself I need a new strategy, so I go from Plan A to Plan B to Plan C to Plan D instead of fixing the actual problem.
I also work part-time in the ER while completing my master’s degree. Unfortunately, I need the job to help pay for school, so quitting work isn’t an option.
Today I took AAMC FL 4 and scored a **485**.
My previous AAMC full-length was a **494**, so seeing a 9-point drop one week before my exam was pretty devastating.
I’m currently scheduled to test on **June 13 (7 days from now).**
My questions are:
Would you sit for the exam or void?
If you were in my position, what score would make you decide to void on test day?
For those who had major score improvements, what did you do when content gaps were the issue?
If I end up retaking, when should I restart studying?
How would you structure a retake plan for someone whose biggest weakness is constantly changing study plans and never sticking with one?
My goal was originally around a **500-505**. At this point I’m trying to be realistic. I’m fully aware im gonna retake it, but I’m struggling to figure out whether I should take this exam, void it, or postpone if possible.
I would appreciate honest advice rather than reassurance. If you were in my shoes, what would you do?
