String v Avon fight

One of my favorite scenes when Stringer tells Avon how he 'Snatched a life'. They get in a quick tussle after this and stringer comes up on top only because Avon is winged from the gunshot.

My question is what would have happened if Avon was not injured? Would he have killed him right there? Never really thought about this
