I’m a theater nerd, friend is not
Looking for something that we’ll both really like. For background, I love the theater, I see 2 shows a month here in NYC. I’ll be going to London for the first time June 19-21 with a German friend who is new to theater and here are our constraints:
- both have a preference for plays over musicals, I know I can be moved by a good musical but he’s more skeptical
- He’s mostly fluent in English but finds certain regional British accents difficult to understand
- both enjoy a range of drama, dark humor, silly humor, thought-provoking pieces
My thoughts, would love yours:
- Witness for the Prosecution (unique setting, gripping drama, would some accents be tough for him though?)
- The Producers (I’ve only see the movie, although it’s a musical he’ll probably get a big kick out of the humor and the German elements)
- Oh Mary (I’ve seen in NY already but it’s quick and I’d happily see Catherine Tate)
- Cyrano (this one excited me as a theater lover, but it’s a long run time if it will be hard for a first-timer to appreciate)
West End Shows I’ve seen already in NY:
- The Play that Goes Wrong (❤️), Book of Mormon (👍), Wicked (❤️), Titanique (👎) , Hadestown (👍)
