My ex (M17) wants to start over again with me (F16) because he recognised his mistake. Did I change how he viewed people? Or..?

Long

So here is a brief intro.. I'm history major and my ex is political student. I fell for him not only because he was my type but also because how he treated everyone.. He is kind, funny and yea good looking.. I had a crush on him for over a year but I'm a huge introvert and don't really talk to guys so yeah i never had the confidence to confront him.. After a year of silence I finally took the courage to tell my friends that I've a crush on him.. One of my friends was actually friend of him.. Now here is what happens, that friend of mine told everything I said ,to him.. And to my surprise he was into me for over 2 years..At first I thought it was a lie - you see I'm quite introvert, often called nerd by others and he, lord he was the popular guy, oh nd yea he's a national boxer (yk many girls crushesover him).. But he showed me his diary where he wrote about me (tbh i was really impressed).. We talked for months - sometimes about history, sometimes silly cartoons we used to watch when we were young and sometimes about our courier goals.. It was really nice to have someone who has the same humour, same interests.. and someone who listens to you.. Eventually we came in a relationship.. for over a year it was going smoothly.. Then I thought one day "maybe i should create a social media account" and then I one.. I put my bio simple.. Included phrases and words like "lost in the past, proud feminist, secular".. Now here is the part where the drama begins..

He texted me first congratulating to step into the world of internet and then asked me "why you put "secular" in your bio" and I responded with "because I'm secular, simple".. something in him shifted and asked "So do you believe that muslims and hindus can be friends?" And i responded with "ofc".. And then he told me "Muslims and hindus can never be friends.. All muslims are terrorist they hate us" I was awe, like wth is wrong with this guy? I told him that I dont agree with him and that being a political student ,no , being a human he shall respect each and every person regardless of their religion or any other background.. He argued with me with invalid points and it soon turned into a huge argument.. I couldn't change his mindset and can't be with someone who is this narrow-minded... We broke up..

Coming to present... a few days ago he confessed how he was wrong and i had a valid point.. I dont know if he really realised his mistake or just lying to reconcile?
