The first Stellar Blade had a very rigid combat system. It looked flashy and visually impressive, but there was little room for player expression, creativity, or mechanical depth. The heavy focus on perfect parries and dodges often turned encounters into a Simon Says reaction game rather than a dynamic combat system.

Its biggest issue, however, was movement. Eve is incredibly agile in cutscenes, yet in gameplay she feels stiff and restricted. Long recovery animations and limited mobility killed combat flow, discouraged repositioning, and made fights feel almost turn based at times.

Based on the new trailer, Stellar Blade Blood Rain definitely looks faster and more ambitious. However, slowing down the footage reveals some familiar concerns. The color coded dodge/parry mechanics are still present, and the trailer did not showcases movement options, which raises questions about whether Shift Up has addressed one of the original game's biggest weaknesses.

Once again, the presentation is outstanding, great visuals, stylish animations, and strong atmosphere; but much of that can mask deeper gameplay issues. I'm also concerned about enemy design. In the first game, most regular enemies were passive, predictable, and felt like filler compared to the bosses. I hope the sequel introduces more aggressive enemies, larger crowds, and greater combat pressure. Otherwise, it may end up repeating many of the shortcomings of its predecessor.
