Can anyone explain crosstalk settings to me?

I have a Yamaha DTX6K5-M kit. Is crosstalk just vibrations from the kit triggering other pads and cymbals when you’re not hitting them? What would be the reason to not increase crosstalk settings so those vibrations wouldn’t trigger anything else. I feel like I’m not understanding this fully here. Any help would be appreciated. This is my first e-kit since 2005.
