How the main line engines reacted to Britian's support of the Lend-Lease Act, circa March 1941
The main line engines at Tidmouth were thinking about the Lend-Lease Act well. Some engines, of course, could always be counted upon to express the political state of the Russia, even if she and England were on the same side.
"I'm not happy," complained Gordon. "Those Russians are communists!"
"Who cares?" said James. "If there's one thing I love about their government, it's that everything is in red."
"Red as in bloodshed," snapped Gordon. "You wouldn’t understand, James, but those Russians are no better than the Nazis."
"One of the colours of the flag of France is red," put in Marcel, brightly. "And that red stands for valor."
"Valor in their eyes,” protested Gordon.
"All I'm hearing is communism and Nazis," said Henry. "And it's giving me boiler-ache Why not we all have a good wash down? Then we'll feel like different engines.”
“Don’t be silly,” said Gordon huffily.
