Are there any major cities that don’t feel like a big, commercialized, congested place? Or if they don’t exist, any smaller towns or cities that are like that?
As someone who’s only lived in the USA, specifically Hawaii my whole life, I’ve only been able to travel with family or through organized tour groups. I’ve visited most of the bigger cities in the USA, New York City, LA, Seattle, Vegas, and they all feel like big sprawling super commercialized and congested downtown areas.
I want something different. Something that doesn‘t have an artificial vibe. Where the buildings are at “eye level”, not tall skyscrapers. No flashing lights or billboards. No giant marquees outside of hotel lobbies. Nobody trying to sell you any souvenirs or passing out pamphlets on the streets. Where you’re not bombarded by commercial ads from the moment you walk off the plane and are walking towards baggage claim in the airport, and have to listen to the tourism ads on a repeat loop on the airport terminal screens.
I’m in a long distance relationship with a girl from Slovakia. We both like horses and nature. Our dream is to own a small stable or barn in the future.
So preferably, a place that’s not urban, no big city/downtown vibe, in a country other than the USA, (so I can visit her and also see a new country), less commercialized, less consumerism based, and less congested. Basically, I want to see something that’s not a major attraction, not super popular, off the beaten path, and not in every tourist ad or on display outside of every tour agency. Preferably with good scenery and a small town vibe. Just without the crowds.
