Recurring GI episodes with fever
21F. Diagnosed with gastritis (in 2024), functional dyspepsia after it showed limited improvement, GERD, anxiety, depression, possible OAS. I had anorexia from 2019 to 2023. I also have extremely painful periods, if that matters. Family history of celiac, I get GI issues with gluten so I never eat it. Have been GF since '21 or '22.
Meds: cyproheptadine 6mg, mirtazapine 15mg, pantoprazole 80mg, Zoloft 50mg. Occasional Pepcid, Gaviscon, Zofran, ginger capsules. I have sparingly taken xiang sha liu jun zi tang, but this does not seem to be related to these episodes. There isn't any real correlation. This past episode I took it 3 or 5 days prior, but for multiple infections I didn't take it any time near the episode. I also occasionally took it before this whole recurring episodes thing started. My brand is Great Nature. It is gluten free. I smoked weed for about a year, from 2023 to 2024 (stopped when I got sick). The issues did not go away after cessation, but did improve slightly.
My symptoms that led to these diagnoses were severe nausea, early satiety, upper left pain, belching. Symptoms worsen with certain vegetables, spices, garlic, tomato, and fat. These symptoms ebb and flow but stay constant in some way, even if it's more mild. I have been having these issues since 2022, got a lot worse in 2024 and got medications for it.
So the recurring GI episodes:
Ever since I got what I assume was norovirus in an outbreak with family over Christmas break, I have been having this issue. About once a month (correlation between this and my menstrual cycle is not very strong, time of month the sickness occurs varies), I get GI upset (throwing up once, diarrhea, nausea) typically accompanied by a fever. It can be low grade, or higher. Once it only lasted hours and had no vomiting; only diarrhea (only 99.8 temp. Another time it lasted 2 days with 102 fever and shifting myself. I don't think I'm being repeatedly exposed to something, because I got it again after moving back home. I'm extremely careful with my food, always cook meats to temp, wash my hands, eat leftovers within 3 days. I don't understand why this keeps happening to me.
I have only had endoscopy done. No other tests. In my endoscopy of '24, they found gastritis, no EOE, no IBD.
I'm currently waiting on appointments with both an allergist and a GI. They are both about 6 weeks out. Which is troubling because it means I'll probably deal with this again before I'm seen. If anyone has any ideas, I would be glad to hear it.
