Rooting for Vegas
I think Marner winning Conn Smythe would be hilarious. Leafs fans think the world revolves around them and they will never admit running their hometown kid out of town was their fault.
Second, Carolina winning a cup would scare me. Their core is going to be intact for years. The Keandre trade worked out great and Stankoven is a problem. Jarvis and Aho are young and on good deals, so let’s hope this team’s confidence takes a hit if they lose.
Elephant in the room, George McPhee learned from his caps years. He was notorious for never making big trades until the Erat trade which lead to his firing. He took his lack of aggression for the caps and went full 360 with the knights, going all out every year and not making trades as stupid as the erat one. Hertl, Marner, Anderson, ect. He’s not the gm anymore but he certainly had a part in those deals and changed the game with cap circumvention after he saw what the lightning were doing.
Love it or hate it you have to respect it, not to mention firing your Stanley cup winning coach right before playoffs and inserting Torts.
I don’t like either team but Vegas makes more sense to me for the aforementioned reasons. Love them or hate them they are a well managed team who makes big time moves that pay off
