People are to obsessed with trauma, overestimate its impact, and even fetishize it.

Bad shit happens to everyone. It doesn't make you special, it doesn't make you deserving of special treatment. All that it makes you is human. I have noticed a bunch of people love talking about their "trauma", and let me tell you most of it is just weak willed people bitching about completely normal (but unfortunate) things that happen to them. Sure talk about your life with your friends and family, but don't expect anyone else to care.

Chances are you don't need life long therapy for your "problems" you need to move on. Sure therapy can be helpful, but not for the rest of your life. A lot of people seem to think (and unfortunately find therapists that accommodate their view) that they should never feel bad. It is part of the process of living.

Being obsessed with your trauma is the problem, not the actual trauma itself. My girlfriend had something really bad happen to her a couple of weeks back, she told me about it, I was very supportive, she moved on. (I am still of course watching for signs of things, but she really seems fine). I have heard other people talk about similar things that happened to her but that happened years ago and as an excuse for all sorts of things.

I like everyone else has had my own share of shit happen in my life (more than a lot of people, less than some). You shouldn't be an ass to people who just had something awful happen to, but the absolute codling of people isn't helping them. If it has been more than a year since "the incident" chances are they should be mostly over it. It is ok for them to still be sad, but in general they should be mostly functional.
